Endodontic
Endodontic dental treatment has the potential to save a problematic tooth. Endodontists are especially skilled at saving teeth that otherwise would have been lost due to damage, decay or other issues. Endodontic treatment performed by Dr. Alvarez often centers on root canals and additional procedures designed to save the tooth. Our Miami dentist will review all potential treatment options to identify the one that is best for your unique oral health challenges.
Endodontic procedures are also performed to eliminate infected areas of teeth. As an example, the root canal procedure is the most common type of endodontic procedure. This procedure is performed to save a tooth that would otherwise require removal. If the pulp, meaning the tooth’s core layer, or the canals containing the pulp are infected or inflamed, the resulting infection will necessitate a root canal. Infection typically stems from cracks, fractures, deep cavities and injury.
The infected pulp is removed through the root canal treatment. The canals are then sealed. However, you will not feel pain during the procedure as you will receive anesthesia at the outset. Another example of endodontic treatment includes surgical endodontics such as an apicoectomy that saves a tooth in which an incision is made in the gums so a small opening can be made in the bone for the removal of the infected tissue. The root tip is then cleaned and sealed with a filling.
